Cuts
MKS offers two cuts – Veine and Fleuri. Veine cut stone is cut across the bed and exposes the sedimentary (layered) nature of the stone. The veined pattern of this cut is most suited for sills and coping, however this can be used for all other applications. Fleuri cut stone is cut with the sedimentary bed, which reveals a rich, marbled and flowered pattern. Fleuri is suitable for all applications.Finishes
At Mankato Kasota Stone, you have many different finishes to choose from – which helps in building a unique design to your project.
The following are the finishes offered:
- Sawn is a smooth texture that has fine marks that are from the saw blade teeth.
The marks can either be a vertical or rotating pattern, depending on the saw that is used. - 24 Grit Sawn is a smooth texture finish that minimizes the saw marks using a 24-grit grinding block.
- Machine Smooth is a flat finish that is created by using Carborundum segments to eliminate the marks of the diamond saw.
- Honed finish is a non-reflective and near polish. It removes the saw marks from the stone surface.
- Tapestry is commonly referred to as a sandblast finish. This can be done either light or heavy. When this finish is done it exposes the natural variations in the stone.
- Polished finishis exceptionally smooth and reflective, having an appearance of marble. This slightly darkens the natural color of the stone.
- Split Face is a rough, natural finish that is created by splitting pieces of stone in a hydraulic press.
- Dressed Split Face is a split face product that is hand pitched back to horizontal bed depths after it has gone through the hydraulic press.
- Rock Face is a hand-tooled finish producing a more controlled split with a pillow shape. This finish will create a more consistent edge thickness. Chisel marks are evident.
- Bush Hammeredis a finish that is created by special tooling that creates a flat but rough, pockmarked texture.
- Natural Strata is a finish that is representative of the stone when it is quarried. This is typically the top face of the block.
