Cuts

MKS offers two cuts – Veine and Fleuri. Veine cut stone is cut across the bed and exposes the sedimentary (layered) nature of the stone. The veined pattern of this cut is most suited for sills and coping, however this can be used for all other applications. Fleuri cut stone is cut with the sedimentary bed, which reveals a rich, marbled and flowered pattern. Fleuri is suitable for all applications.

Finishes

MKS offers many different finishes, so that customers are offered the choice and gives each project a uniqueness that builds distinction.

The following are the finishes offered:
  • › Polished finish is exceptionally smooth and reflective, that slightly darkens the natural color of the stone.
  • › Honed finish is non-reflective and near-polished.
  • › Machine Smooth is a flat, smooth finish created by using Carborundum segments to eliminate the marks of the diamond saw.
  • Tapestry is a sandblasted finish, either light or heavy, which exposes in relief the natural variations in the stone.
  • › Sawn is a smooth texture with fine marks produced from the saw blade teeth either in a vertical pattern (gang sawn) or a rotating pattern (block sawn).
  • › Natural Strata is the natural ledge top surface which can vary greatly in slab thickness, length and height.
  • › Split Face is a rough, natural finish created by splitting pieces of stone in a hydraulic press at 4" depths, lengths to 40" and heights ranging from 1½" to 12" for standard Split Face and 1½" to 24" for Sawn-back and Dressed Split Face.
  • › Rock Face is a hand-tooled finish producing a more controlled, pillow shape with particular attention to consistent edge thickness.
  • › Mankato Kasota Stone, Inc.'s Limestone can be finished in both radial cuts and deep curved profiles.
  • › Mankato Kasota Stone Inc.'s Limestone is suited to a variety of corner treatments: Miter, Quirk Miter, Overlap, Butt Joint, Square and Quarter Round
